CBCN TO MEET LAY FAITHFUL OVER INDISCRIMINATE FUNDRAISING IN CHURCH

Worried over indiscriminate fundraising in the Church, the Catholic Bishops' Conference of Nigeria's (CBCN) Bishop Chairman for Laity, Most Rev. John Niyiring has summoned the meeting of all presidents and secretaries of Lay Apostolate groups in Nigeria.

 

According to a circular dated Tuesday, October 26, 2021 addressed to all Lay Apostolate groups/societies in Nigeria and signed by the the Director, Pastoral Agents, Catholic Secretariat of Nigeria (CSN), Rev. Fr. Isaac Dugu, the meeting will hold on Wednesday, November 17, 2021 by 12noon at the CSN Resource Centre, Durumi, Abuja.

 

The circular stated that the manner, intent and frequency of these fundraising have been brought to the attention aof the Bishops during their just concluded 2021 second plenary meeting held in Enugu last August.

 

The meeting, according to the circular, is an in-house one aimed at deepening discussions on the topic and also defining the way forward.

 

The Lay Apostolate groups in Nigeria include all sodalities, associations and organisations of the lay faithful in the Catholic Church in Nigeria.
