The President of the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of Nigeria, Archbishop Augustine Obiorah Akubeze on Friday, October 15, 2021, disclosed that the Conference insisted on a four-year single term leadership for Catholic lay organizations in order to instill decorum.

The Archbishop of Benin City stated further that the struggle, tussle and bickering arising from most associations at the end of tenure of leadership made the decision of the CBCN to be most necessary and timely.

Archbishop Akubeze made the clarification when he received in audience the newly elected national leadership of the Catholic Charismatic Renewal of Nigeria (CCRN) at the Bishop's Court in Benin City, Edo State.

The CBCN President said decision is in line with the one-term leadership tenure of 4 years in the CBCN, “at the end of my 4th year as President of the CBCN, another Bishop will be elected President,” Archbishop Akubeze disclosed.

He commended the executive team of the CCRN led by the national chairman, Bro. Uche Manu.

In his remark, Bro. Manu thanked the CBCN President for speaking truth to power on burning national issues, even as he promised that the CCRN is committed to encouraging sound catechesis at the Parish levels of the church.

On the executive team were three priests, some provincial chairmen of the Renewal, Communication Commission Chairman Matthews Otalike and the CCRN ICT Coordinator, Emmanuel Damisa.
