The Catholic Bishops of Lagos and Ibadan Ecclesiastical Provinces of Nigeria have called on the Federal Government to intensify efforts to put an end to the carnage being perpetrated by the Boko Haram Islamic fundamentalist group in the name of religion.

The President of the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of Nigeria, Most Rev. Ignatius Kaigama has described the incessant attack of the Boko Haram Islamic fundamentalist sect on Christian places of worship as an exercise in futility that cannot put an end to the practice of Christianity in any part of the country. 

The Church in Africa has been called upon to rise up to the challenges of integral human development in Africa by initiating strategies that will enhance sustainable democracy and good governance in the continent. The call was made by the Catholic Bishop of Sokoto Diocese, Most Rev. Matthew Hassan Kukah in a paper delivered at a Conference organized by the Pontifical Council for Social Justice, recently in Cotonou, Benin Republic. The title of the paper is: Integral Development, protection of Life and Security Concerns in Africa; Some Challenges.
